![]() ![]() ![]() Well see how the game does, youtube reviews have been generally positive, reception in forums like this seems kinda mixed but mostly positive, but the game is getting slaughtered in metactitic, any positive user review posted gets downvoted to hell and even professional critic reception seems mixed, and sadly, some of those reviews are scoring it down simply for not having the same gameplay as the original and some did not even understand how the randomization worked. There´s fair criticism to be made of the game, like not being able to react to what´s coming because of the zoomed in camera (kinda agree) and it being nothing but a timing game with just one dev designed solution(if you are going for some the fastest times, or talking about some of the hardest chunks, KINDA agree, for every other situation, disagree) The Devs definitely could have done a better job communicating how the game works, they should have named the chunks to better communicate that those ARE the handcrafted levels and although I do not mind each level being a gauntlet of SMB sized levels, there is something to be said about having made the chunks the levels themselves on the map screen (same quantity of levels, all still changed on new game+) and they REALLY should add at least a soft save option for the levels because some of the Dark World chunks get ridiculous.Īlso, maybe they should have made more clear that the game is an auto runner, apparently this is not mentioned in any of the stores so lots of people seem to be buying the game and getting immediately mad about this change, I remember there being instant backlash at the idea when the game was first announced so perhaps they are trying to hide that fact there even though they were super open and clear about it in interviews. So much this, although it might be a coincidence due to the random nature of the game but I recognized at least 2 new set of situations in new game +, not breaking the glass in The Clinic, and chunks with 2 of the spider monsters that trap the screen you have to deal with in The Other Side. "My levels now had new mechanics with unique and in some cases more difficult things to do!" Don't give up on the game or yourself! Really give it a chance. It also takes some investment to adapt to and become comfortable with the mechanics of the game, but it is well worth it. It doesn't seem to be bursting at the seams with content, but it is. In conclusion, there's a LOT of game here and the devs could have done a bit better of a job presenting it. It's overwhelming to people who speedrun, I suppose, but it's actually quite brilliant and I think it's actually ahead of its time. You could have overall completion times or speedruns for any individual seed. You could try to find a seed that gets you the fastest time. you can share your seed with people so that they get all the exact same chunks as you do. You can replay the game multiple times! It's great.Ģ) The procedural generation of the game ruins speedrunning.Īnswer: Yes, it does. Most of the chunks in the game feel lovingly made and can be quite brilliant. When I started New Game+, I was a little skeptical that I would be getting too similar of an experience, but it was like a brand new game! A whole new set of chunks! My levels now had new mechanics with unique and in some cases more difficult things to do! It felt very refreshed and I was very surprised. ![]() In all, you are getting more 'chunks' and therefore more levels and I find them mostly seamless and they are handcrafted. Here you get 6-8 chunks that form an entire stage. The original game is just standalone chunks. If you think about it, most 'chunks' in this game are akin to a lot of the levels in the original game. There's less game.Īnswer: There are technically less levels, but there are near endless possibilities. There are less levels and the 'chunks' are put together randomly. People that do understand it don't like it for a couple main reasons: ![]() They don't understand the 'seeds' and how you get random 'chunks' that form levels. Not many people understand the New Game+ and how it works. I will admit that the WAY they present the game is a bit lacking. Not only can you not stop, but you feel like it moves too quickly. It takes a while.Īt first the game makes you feel helpless. Don't get me wrong - it's still very difficult, but the mechanics will become second nature. the more you play it, the more comfortable you become with how it works and the 'easier' it becomes. It was different and it was difficult to get used to.īut. ![]()
